GRANT OPPORTUNTIES

Right now, there are several opportunities to tap into unprecedented federal funding for trails, walking and biking. With the quick pace of these grant opportunities—some of which include record-setting funding levels— our friends at Rails to Trails Conservancy want to make sure you are prepared to take full advantage.

Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) Program
Deadline: Monday, Sept. 30, 2024

The notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for the FY 2024 Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) Program was recently released with a Sept. 30 application deadline. The USDOT is combining available funding for FYs 2024, 2025 and 2026 into this round, which means $607 million is available to help reconnect communities separated by divisive transportation infrastructure. We urge you to apply for this multiyear RCP funding because it is a unique opportunity to take advantage of an increased pot of federal money. Since funding years were combined, there may be a longer timeline for this program to accept future applications. In this round, there is also the opportunity to request technical assistance through the Reconnecting Communities Institute.

Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program
Deadline for planning and demonstration grants:
Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024

Aug. 29 is the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) deadline for planning and demonstration grants. RTC’s recent webinar with Ian Thomas from America Walks and Shayna Rose from the Baltimore City Department of Transportation offers strategies for effectively demonstrating safety outcomes in grant applications, which will be particularly helpful if you’re applying for an SS4A grant. SS4A uniquely funds multimodal networks, safe routes to everyday destinations, and separated biking, walking and rolling routes, creating opportunities to invest in trail and active transportation infrastructure, which we’ve seen come to fruition in previous rounds.
