Opening Keynote Speaker

Kristine Stratton, NRPA President & CEO

Kristine Stratton is the president & CEO of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). In this role, she leads the organization’s strategic direction as the backbone organization for close-to-home park and recreation systems and advocate for park and recreation professionals, including NRPA’s 60,000+members.

Kristine has worked at the intersection of people and the environment for over 20 years, serving in executive leadership roles at Earthjustice, Waterkeeper Alliance, and the Conservation Law Foundation. She has an MA in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University and a BSBA from Boston University. Her greatest joy is exploring coastal and inland waters, parks and trails.

KEYNOTE DESCRIPTION: Shaping the Future of Parks & Recreation at NRPA

Learn about the new NRPA Strategic Plan that is guiding our work over the next five years. Discover how the park and recreation field is virtually the only municipal service that can positively influence all aspects of community health and well-being. Understand the key leadership capabilities that will help professionals today, tomorrow, and into the future. Attendees can expect to leave the session with concrete ideas for approaching their own programs and spaces.

Closing Keynote Speaker

Jeremy McGhee (The Unpavement Project)

Jeremy is the founder of the Unpavement Project, a group seeking to provide better access to nature for adaptive athletes by providing detailed descriptions, photos, videos and maps to navigate unfamiliar and wild terrain confidently and safely. An adaptive  mountain biker, skier, and surfer, he lives among the mountains and waves in California.

KEYNOTE DESCRIPTION: Shaping the Future of Parks & Recreation at NRPA

With a compelling, richly illustrated tale, Pro Athlete Jeremy P. McGhee invites audiences to join him by taking an honest look in the mirror. In 2012, Jeremy became the first paraplegic to climb and descend Bloody Couloir, a major backcountry ski route in the Eastern Sierras, all with only the use of his arms. Jeremy explains how his greatest obstacles were not physical, but of his own mind. The question that lies at the heart of how to accomplish what we want in life, he proclaims is, ‘How uncomfortable are you willing to get?’ Through his journey of pitfalls, triumphs, and obsession, Jeremy inspires others to take the reins and live the adventure themselves!
