Essential Functions 

Oversee and coordinate recreation events staff and maintenance crews for the rentals and activities at regional and community athletic and recreation facilities; develop work plans, including establishing tasks priorities, assigning work, monitoring progress.
Supervise, train, and provide support, and leadership to staff; work to correct deficiencies and build strengths within team members; hire, evaluate, and recommend discipline. 
Manage and coordinate facility and park usage for various programs, outside rentals, special events, etc. to ensure maximum value and benefit to the community.
Seek out and secure various sponsorships, vendors, and concessionaires. 
Coordinate promotion of facilities and events, pricing and fee structures, cost-benefit analysis, and event and site evaluations.
Collaborate with and make presentations to park board members, business and tourism industry leaders, citizens, and other various user groups.
Assist with strategic planning for the department. 
Prepare a variety of reports, planning documents, and various other materials.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

Knowledge of principles and practices of facility and recreation management, including facilitating recreation programs and special events, program development and implementation, budget management, strategic planning, and risk mitigation.
Knowledge of rules and strategies of various recreational activities, and sports with the ability to interpret and apply City adapted rules and regulations, including contractual guidelines.
Knowledge of sport turf management related to field use and scheduling maintenance, including the needs and requirements for various sports fields and diamonds. 
Knowledge of and ability to promote department safety considerations, City safety policies, OSHA standards and guidelines, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Skill in promoting facilities and events for a broad audience, and specific user groups.
Skill in operating office equipment, various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment. 
Skill in supervising and training staff, including performance evaluations, developing work plans, etc.
Skill in negotiating and communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
Ability to learn and apply City and Department adopted Master Plans and Initiatives, ranging from fee recovery, inclusion and equity to conservation.
Ability to coordinate logistics for multiple programs and events, including staff scheduling, budgets, pricing of services, etc.
Ability to learn various job-specific standards and guidelines including, planning, developing and implementing use management and reservations systems for parks and recreation facilities;
Ability to resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.
Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures, including Montana Code Annotated, Missoula Municipal Codes, and various other federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations.
Working Conditions:
Work environment may include exposure to unavoidable weather conditions, occupational hazards, and physical risks, including uneven terrain, which require following basic safety precautions.
 

Qualifications and Additional Application Materials 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to seven (7) years of recreation management, program management, or another relevant field, including prior supervisory experience. 
Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.  
Must have CPR/First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, NRPA  Events Management, Maintenance and/or Turf Management Certification, preferred.
